I’ve had a black faux fur gilet hanging in my wardrobe for years. The first couple of winters I wore it so much, but for some reason, it got forgotten about for the last couple of years. It was hanging up unloved in the wardrobe in the spare room. Until now. I’d forgotten how versatile it is, and so now it’s back into my main wardrobe to bring a fluffy, cosy feel to my winter outfits. If you know me, you’ll know I love a bit of faux fur so here are my tips on how to style your faux fur gilet…
Find A Flattering Black Faux Fur Gilet
First things first, you need to find the right faux fur gilet for you. For me, a longer line gilet that is not too chunky is the most flattering style. My hips are the widest part of my body so I find that if a gilet (or any style of jacket) finishes just above my hips it makes me look wider than I am. This particular faux fur gilet has been in my wardrobe for years because I find it super versatile and very flattering, too. It skims my hips rather than accentuating them. If your body shape is a little more straight up and down than me then a gilet that stops at your waist would add curves.
Wear It With Your Autumn Midi Dresses
Over the past year or so, midi length dresses and skirts have become absolute essentials in my wardrobe. Now that the weather is most definitely getting colder I find that I want something warmer to wear with those midi’s, but I’m not quite ready to cover them up with a coat just yet. This is where the faux fur gilet comes in handy. It looks cool, adds a warm layer to your outfit, all while still being able to see your gorgeous dress underneath. A midi skirt and a fine knit sweater would look gorgeous underneath, too.
Liven Up Your Jeans And Jumper Combo
For more casual weekend outfits – perhaps an Autumnal walk or a Sunday pub lunch – the faux fur gilet is perfect, too. A pair of blue jeans, a chunky cream jumper, your favourite black ankle boots and the gilet thrown over the top would look so chic and be super cosy.
There are so many outfits I have in mind to wear my gilet with. It’s so perfect for when you don’t want to wear a coat but you need a cosy layer. I can’t wait to get more wear out of mine these next few months.
