‘Tis the season for teddy coats, but a lot of the styles available at the moment are fairly formal. I still wear mine with more casual outfits, but they would look out of place with super casual outfits such as joggers and hoodies. I’ve found the perfect casual take on the teddy coat for days when you need something warm and snuggly but you still want to wear something relaxed underneath.
The Relaxed Style
Whenever I throw one of my smarter coats over a more relaxed outfit I feel like I’ve got a totally mish-mashed look on. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t look great. Some days I do just want to wear leggings or jeans and a jumper out of the house to run errands. On those days I still need a warm coat though, and now I’ve found the perfect style from ASOS in this sage green fleece puffer jacket. First of all, can we just talk about the colour? I am absolutely loving sage green right now if you couldn’t tell from my Instagram feed. Secondly, the coat is made from teddy fabric, which has to be the most popular outerwear fabric right now. Who wouldn’t want to feel like you’re wrapped in a giant teddy bear? I certainly do! And that leads me nicely onto my last point – you can’t get much warmer than a puffer teddy coat. Yes, puffer coats are warm, and yes, teddy coats are warm. Put them together and bam! The cosiest casual coat you’ll have in your wardrobe. My only negative about this coat is that I feel like I’m wrapped in a duvet. Who would have thought that would be a negative? Well, I suppose that I mean I feel a little like the Michelin Man. Look him up if you don’t know what I mean. I have a few styling tricks to avoid that though…
Casual But Chic
I bought this coat with casual outfits in mind and it’s perfect. So that I don’t end up looking like the aforementioned Michelin Man I only wear the coat over fitted outfits. Leggings and a long jumper, skinny jeans and a fine knit, skinny joggers and a sweatshirt. You get the picture. More voluminous skirts or dresses would totally overwhelm my petite frame. Even on casual days, I don’t want to be swamped by my clothes. Chucky boots complete this outfit, but trainers would look fab for this casual take on the teddy coat, too.
