Wearing a midi skirt in Winter can be a bit of a challenge. Yes, they cover most of your legs but generally, they are made from lighter materials so they can quite impractical to wear when it’s freezing outside. You know me though, I love wearing midi skirts. They flatter your waist and the length is perfect, too. I’ve said before that I always thought midi skirts wouldn’t suit me as I am under five foot three. I’m so glad I gave them a chance though as they are now a staple in my wardrobe. Here’s how yo9u can wear your midi skirt in Winter.
Layer Over The Top
The key to wearing your midi skirt at this time of year is to wear it with something much warmer on your top half. I love to pair my favourite green midi skirt from the summer with either a plain cream jumper – see that outfit here – or with this beauty. Depending on your style you can either wear an oversized jumper slouchy over the top, or you could tuck it in as I like to do. I find that drawing attention to my waist by tucking in at least the front of the jumper is the most flattering option for me. You could always use a waist belt, too.
The great thing about midi skirts is that you can hide a multitude of sins underneath them. Haven’t shaved your legs? Can’t tell! Dodgy fake tan? Can’t see! Ant in Winter you can hide your thermal tights underneath. The outfit I wore in Edinburgh last Winter is the perfect example of this. I wore thick, black opaque tights under a midi skirt and ankle boots. You can’t tell at all! If your skirt lighter you could always find a pair of thicker nude tights to add a layer of warmth rather than a heavy black pair.
Another tip I have so you can wear your midi skirt in Winter is to also layer a t-shirt or vest under your jumper, and wear a gorgeous teddy coat or faux fur over the top. Hardly groundbreaking advice, I know. I find that most outfits become Winter-appropriate when you pop a pair of tights underneath and a warm coat over the top.
Do you have any other tips for wearing your favourite clothes when it’s freezing outside? I hate not being able to wear my favourite pieces of clothing so I always try to style them for different seasons.
