The Knit Maxi Dress is the 2020 trend you should be wearing right now. I’ve always liked how knitted maxi dresses look, but found that they overwhelm my petite frame. Here’s how I’ll be styling the knit maxi dress for 2020.
Choosing the Best Knit For You
Knitted maxi dresses come in so many different styles that it can be a little overwhelming finding the style that is going to work for you. There’s fine knits, chunky knits, oversized or fitted styles, alongside various necklines and sleeve styles. Phew, quite the options!
For me, chunky knit maxi dresses just don’t look good. They totally overwhelm my small frame and make me feel dumpy. Not the look I’m going for at all. So what style does look good? Well, as you can see from this outfit, a fine knit is a must for me, alongside a more fitted style. As well as being petite I am a solid hourglass shape. I try to choose clothing that accents my smaller waist as I find it the most flattering and, personally, love how it looks. This dress from Marks & Spencer is perfect for accentuating my waist as it very form-fitting and then kicks out at the hem.
Wearing the right Underwear
I don’t know about you, but whenever I wear anything that is a fine knit, I have to ensure I have chosen good underwear. No want VPL, right? I bought a pair of control shorts specifically for this very reason. I’d originally bought a body, but the pants duh into my hips and looked worse than if I was a thong three size too small. Are you seeing the problem? The smoothing shorts work a treat, and I’ve worn them under many outfits since I bought them. I’m not sure why I waited so long, to be honest. The bra I’m wearing doesn’t look so great, as I’m sure you can see in the photographs. A better fitting, seamless t-shirt bra would be best under a fine knit like this.
Choose your Accessories Wisely
Choosing the right accessories to wear with your knit maxi dress is key. You can totally choose the feel of the outfit just with the bags and shoes that you choose. I chose to go for a fairly casual outfit, so I paired the dress with some block heel ankle boots and my favourite animal print bag. You could easily swap out the ankle boots for a pair of pointed court shoes, and the cross-body bag for a clutch bag. Bam, night out outfit sorted. A pair of gold hoops always look good, too.
