Whenever I’m visiting a new city, or somewhere I’m very familiar with, I love to try new places to eat. On a recent day out I discovered Scran in Edinburgh for a spot of brunch. Tucked away inside an arcade on North Bridge, it’s fairly easy to miss if you don’t keep your eyes open. We were on the hunt for some brunch when we discovered this little gem.
When we first walked we thought there weren’t any spare tables as it is very small, but alas, there is a mezzanine with two large tables and two or three smaller tables. I really enjoyed eating our brunch overlooking the rest of the cafe – it was perfect for people watching and super cosy on a cold day.
Whenever I go out for breakfast or brunch, pancakes are always my first choice. With bacon and maple syrup, preferably. I’ve sampled them at The Sand Bar in Amble, alongside Holyrood 9A. Scran in Edinburgh did not disappoint. The pancakes were fluffy, the bacon was crispy and there was just enough maple syrup. The meals came on gorgeous ceramics, too.
My Mam went for a full English breakfast – sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomato, hash brown and toast. It was a perfect size – not too small, but not too large, either. The pricing was good. I can’t remember what our bill came to exactly, but I remember thinking it was good.
Where is your favourite place for breakfast? And what is your favourite breakfast?
