Top Tip – As a lot of wrap dresses are rather low-cut, and not all of us are confident enough to have that much cleavage on show, layer a bodysuit underneath. I found one in New Look which was v-neck but had straps across the front which make it a little more modest but doesn’t spoil the look of the dress. Win win.
Goodbye summer. It was fun while it lasted. Well, those few days of summer that we actually had. In all honesty, only one real day of summer stands out to me – remember that Saturday back in June that was so so hot? I had a family BBQ and then a few drinks along the Fish Quay and it was lovely – a perfect day. But those are long gone now. As I’m writing this it’s pitch black at 7pm and there’s been gloomy fog over North Shields for the past two days. Hello Autumn.
Not that I don’t like autumn. Just look at the gorgeous colours in these images. Those burnt orange leaves are so beautiful, a perfect match for the most autumnal of autumn dress. I’m going to layer it up with chunky jumpers and wear it throughout the season.
Every year I buy a new pair of winter boots (or two). Say hello to autumn 2017’s new addition. A small, chunky heel, leather, suede and a western touch, they look good with just about anything in my wardrobe. I can’t wait to wear them with a pair of faux leather trousers and a cream fisherman knit jumper. Perfection.
What are you looking forward to the most this autumn? I can’t wait for cosy nights in, Bonfire Night and the lead up to Christmas!
I rarely go out-out anymore. By that, I mean donning a bodycon dress and drinking (lots) of prosecco with the girls. Now I’m not saying that never happens, but nowadays a ‘going out’ for me generally means a meal and a few drinks with Matt and some friends. These more relaxed nights out call for more relaxed outfits. In comes the Topshop Spot Print Plisse Wrap Dress…
I wore this outfit for a party last weekend and it was perfect. It’s *just* warm enough at the minute to wear it with bare legs and these gorgeous reddy coral tie-up sandals. They add a cute pop of colour to the otherwise monochrome outfit.
Speaking of monochrome, my ASOS Mono Tassel Earrings were the perfect choice to complement the spotty dress. The statement earring is so on trend at the minute, without being in-your-face obnoxious. I love them!
Charlotte Tilbury’s Hot Lips in Tell Laura seemed the obvious choice to match my shoes. It’s a gorgeous red with an orange undertone. I reach for it allllll the time. It has a beautiful matte finish and lasts for ages.
My ‘go-to’ going out back is Rebecca Minkoff’s Mini M.A.C. I’ve had this baby over 4 years now, and apart from a few scratches on the clip, you’d think it was brand new. It’s the perfect size to throw in some cash, phone and your lippie.
I’ve been a fan of wrap dresses for a long time, forever really. I’ve got an hourglass figure and the wrap-style just flatters it so well. The high street is full of these dresses at the moment, so if you’re obsessed with them, like me, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The dress I’m wearing here is from New Look – and it’s now in the sale so grab it while you can! They have a huge selection of wrap dress in-store and online now so if you can’t find this exact one there’s plenty to choose from. I might treat myself to a long sleeved version as it’s starting to get a little cooler now.
So why do I love wrap dresses so much? Well, apart from the fact that they’re super flattering, they’re also super versatile, too. Here I’ve styled mine for a daytime look with a denim jacket and some low-heeled mules, but I could have easily worn it for a dinner date or even a night out with the girls by throwing on a pair of heels.
Have you tried the wrap dress trend? I think it’ll be around for a long time…
I’ve found a new love for skirts. I’m not sure where it has come from. I’ve always been more of a dress kinda gal rather skirts. I always found them a little more difficult to style, a little less flattering, and let’s face it – throwing on a dress is much quicker than thinking about what top you’re going to pair with your skirt. Maybe I’ve just been lazy?
I found this skirt on ASOS a little while ago and decided to give it a go. I wasn’t sure if it would suit, so as soon as it was delivered I ripped open the back and tried it on. I loved it. The split in the front means it doesn’t look frumpy on me, and the high-waist is very flattering on me. Although normally I’d normally style this figure-hugging type skirt for an evening out, as I rarely go on nights out anymore I made it work for a casual day time look, though.
I paired the skirt with my favourite band tee. I tried tucking it in at first, but because the skirt is a thin material, it looked too bulky. I decided to tie the t-shirt up in a knot instead, which I really liked the look of. Tip – if there isn’t enough fabric to tie in a knot, use a hair bobble instead. If the colour matches your t-shirt you won’t even be able to tell the difference!
To finish off the look I popped on my MissGuided studded sandals. Although this skirt is flattering on me, I need a little bit of height with it so flat we a no-go. I love these sandals as they can easily be dressed up or down and don’t look over the top. The small block heel makes them super comfortable and easy to walk in, too.
Do you wear skirts? How do you style your favourites?

As I mentioned in my Slogan Tee post, I can’t get enough of red right now. I may have just had a delivery of a gorgeous red Fila tee. Oops. I first saw this New Look jumper on Kate La Vie. I fell in love with the colour and the statement font. It’s such a versatile piece, too. I wore it to an event a couple of weeks ago with skinny jeans and black loafers, a great throw-on outfit.
These photos were taken by Alice before we attended an event together, and I love the way images turned out. It was the first time I’ve really taken outfit photos in public. I felt a little awkward at first, but I quickly didn’t care if anyone looked.
As the sun was shining I decided to get my legs out. Think I need to get some tan on those milk bottles the next time I go without tights! This wrap-style skirt is so popular at the minute, but skirts normally don’t really suit me. I decided to give this one a go, and surprisingly love how it looks on. The navy looks great with my red jumper, and the floral print contrasts with the graphic slogan jumper.
I couldn’t decide what shoes to pair with this outfit initially. It had been raining all morning but a closed toe shoe just wouldn’t have worked. I tried on my black mules, but they were a little chunky, and then I remembered about my River Island sandals. I bought these beauties early in the year for my holiday in April. Check out my Callao Salvaje, Tenerife post to see my Instagram diary of the holiday. They go so well with the red jumper, although they aren’t quite the same shade of red.
The pièce de résistance of the outfit is this amazing Mickey Mouse bag from Primark. I was looking for a backpack to take to Kendal Calling festival that wasn’t too big when I came across this beauty. It has a naff Disney keyring which I removed as soon as I got it home. It’s such a good size, not huge but I can fit my purse, camera and phone in no problem. Also, how cute are the Mickey Mouse ears, please?!
As I mentioned in my last post, I haven’t been blogging much recently. That’s because I’ve been super duper busy with uni stuff and being on teaching placement. I’ve had no spare time at all! It’s the Christmas holidays now though, so I thought I’d fit in a few posts while things were a little less manic.
With New Years Eve coming up, I’m sure most of us are thinking about what we’re going to wear when the big night comes around. When Simply Be asked if I’d like to choose some party shoes, I had NYE in mind when making my choice. I’m not a big party girl, and it’s the same come NYE. I decided to go with a shoe that had a bit of bling, but with a chunky low heel I could wear all night without getting sore tootsies. The Sole Diva Jewelled Court Shoes were the perfect mix of snazzy and sensible for me ❤
I’ll pair my NYE shoes with a pair of dark wash jeans to keep it casual (mine are the Topshop Jamie Jeans) and a this silver sparkly top I’ve had for yearssssss. A jumper with a bit of bling would look just as cute with these shoes, too.
I’m not sure what plans are for NYE yet, but whatever I do this outfit will be perfect! In fact, I might even end up wearing it for Christmas Day tomorrow…
I’ve never really been a jeans-and-tee kinda gal, but I am a comfort-comes-first kind of girl. That means when I just want to throw on a pair of trainers for a casual day, I like to keep the rest of my outfit looking cool.
My new Reebok sneaks have blue details on the sole, so I pared them with my Topshop Jamie jeans and a basic navy tee. Even though the outfit is pretty basic, together I think they make a pretty cool outfit that looks like I actually made an effort while still being super comfortable.
In the winter this outfit will look great with a grey sweatshirt over the tee for when I have to get up early for uni but not look like I’ve just rolled out of bed!
